The orchestration gap between importance and progress

Deloitte's 2026 Global Human Capital Trends finds leaders rate dynamic orchestration of people, skills and resources as critical, yet almost none report strong progress. Speed now depends on how work is assembled in real time.

Outcome we help: Stop org-chart teams that cannot reallocate people to outcomes.

Deloitte Orchestrating for agility methodology note

What it means for leaders

  • Competitive advantage is shifting from scale alone to the ability to reconfigure capability and capacity quickly.
  • Most organisations still organise by fixed structure while expecting agility. That gap shows up as stalled progress.
  • Dynamic teams and clearer orchestration of humans and AI are becoming operating-model work, not HR side projects.

What to do on Monday

Start here: Form one time-boxed cross-functional team around a single outcome (not the org chart) and list what blocks reallocation of people or skills this week.

  1. Write down how people, skills and tools are currently allocated for that outcome, and where reallocation is blocked.
  2. Give managers the minimum data they need to redistribute work this week, not next quarter.
  3. Review one standing team structure that no longer matches the work and propose a modular alternative.
